Gauloise Christmas used to be called Bocq Christmas and before that even Regal Christmas. But although the name has changed a few times, the taste still remains the same. Gauloise Christmas is a typical Belgian winter beer with a lot of warmth, spices and sweetness. Gauloise Christmas has a very dark ruby color with a generous beige head. In the aroma one can immediately discover what the beer is all about: a whole lot of spiciness (coriander, liquorice, cinnamon, a little bit of cocoa and caramel) and a little bit of fruitiness (raisin, dark fruit like plum). Brewery Du Bocq famously uses plenty of spices in its beers, but always with a feeling for balance and with a clear view of how the total package should taste like. Typical for Belgian Christmas beers, Gauloise Christmas has notably more sweetness and hints of liquorice than any of the brewery’s other beers. They succeed however to combine this spiciness with a very warm and round mouthfeel creating a perfect balance. This balance can also be found in the sweet yet moderately dry aftertaste.
