アルコール度数の高いクリスマスビールの人気がなかった時代、３５年ものあいだ、グーデン・カロルス・クリスマスは造られていませんでした。　しかしヘット・アンケル醸造所は、本来のベルギービールの伝統を取り戻す為、2002年より、再びアルコール度数が高く、色の濃い、クリスマスビールを作り始めました。

グーデン・カロルス・クリスマスは、世界的に有名なグーデン・カロルス・クラシックをもとにしたビールですが、その味わいにははっきりとした違いがあります。このクリスマスビールは、深いルビー色をしていて、10.5％のハイアルコール・ストロングビールです。8月に醸造されますが、最適なバランスに仕上げるため数ヶ月寝かせます。この間、ビールは、6種類ものスパイスや香草、また、焙煎された麦芽の香りと味わいにしっかりと包み込まれます。ドライフルーツ(デーツ、プラム、イチジク)の様な香りや、シナモンやリコリス、更にほんの少し感じる酸味が複雑で豊かなことがグーデン・カロルス・クリスマスの味わいの特徴です。その上、ベルギー産の３種類のホップが使用され、このクリスマスビールをより味わい深いものに仕上げています。

In a period where strong end-of-the-year beers were less popular, Gouden Carolus Christmas was absent from the market for more than 35 years. From 2002 however Brewery Het Anker decided that it was time again to restore some decent Belgian tradition and they started to brew their dark colored, high alcohol Christmas beer again.

Gouden Carolus Christmas is based on the world-renowned Gouden Carolus Classic but has a very distinct and unique taste. It’s a strong, dark ruby red beer with a whopping alcohol percentage of 10.5%. Brewed in August, the beer rests a few months to reach an optimal balance. This period ensures that the beer is fully impregnated by the aroma and taste of the roasted malts and the 6 different kinds of herbs and spices used. Characterized by typical aromas of dried fruit (dates, plums, figs), hints of cinnamon, liquorice and even a little bit sourness, Gouden Carolus Christmas is a very complex and rich beer. Additionally, three kinds of exclusively Belgian hops further define the rich taste of this Christmas beer.
