Whiskey Infused was originally launched in 2015 as the first beer in the limited “Gouden Carolus Indulgence” series. This series puts forward one-time brews of unique and innovating beers. While the initial plan was not to repeat any of the brews, the brewery still received daily requests for Whiskey Infused after 2 years. This was not surprising as the beer immediately got awarded as the “World’s Best Spirit Flavored Beer” at the World Beer Awards in 2016. This trick was repeated in 2017. So the beer was relaunched in 2017 under the name Cuvee van de Keizer Whiskey Infused. This name refers to the brewing method of the beer. Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Imperial Dark is enriched by an infusion of Gouden Carolus Single Malt whisky. This whiskey is distilled from the mash of malted grain of Gouden Carolus Tripel. The whiskey ripens first in classic Bourbons barrels to be moved afterwards to Het Anker barrels with unique specifications. It is characterized by subtle hints of fruity aroma’s, wood and vanilla. The result of this infusion is an exceptional ale: powerful and full-bodied, with subtle touches of vanilla, oak and chocolate. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.
