When the little animals in Fairyland hibernate, the Chouffe gnomes love to gather in their cottage. By the gentle firelight, they spend long evenings telling the best Ardennes stories while enjoying a delicious N'Ice Chouffe. The name has actually 2 meanings. The first being “nice Chouffe”, which simply means that this is a beer with a guaranteed quality that everyone can enjoy. In the word “nice” you can also see the word “ice”, which is the second meaning of the name. It refers to both the season in which the beer should be drunk as to Eisbock, a beer style that is characterized by its high alcohol volume. N'Ice Chouffe was first brewed in 1993 as a beer to enjoy all winter long. It is a fairly complex, full-bodied beer with a certain sweetness that guarantees to keep you warm in the cold winter months. The aroma of alcohol is prominent, but herbal and fruity notes can also be detected. The dark color is obtained not by using roasted barley (pale barley malt is being used), but by adding dark candy sugar before the main fermentation. This takes away some of the bitterness but enhances the spicy character of the beer and the round mouthfeel. Smooth and strong, with spicy notes of thyme and Curacao, this dark beer warms both hearts and atmospheres, making even the coldest winters joyful.
